Overview

Welcome to our EE155 final project on AC Induction Motor Control. The goal of this project was to provide an infrastructure with which one could control a three-phase AC induction motor. There are many applications of AC motor control: electric vehicles, energy efficient appliances, and pumps, just to name a few. This motivation fuels our interest in the material and creating efficient control of high power circuits can help reduce our carbon footprint - always a worthy endeavor.

Initially, we thought we could approach AC motor control much as we had aproached DC motor control earlier on. Upon further research, we discovered that much more nuance was available in the AC space. In that vein, we decided to investigate field-oriented vector control and to develop a PCB shield for controlling an induction motor. Please navigate to other sections of this website to learn more about the hardware and software we created.
